Sightseeing in Delhi

Delhi, Delhi India is a fascinating place to visit with many historical sights to see as well as several modern facilities to ensure the entire family will enjoy their stay. Delhi is the second largest metropolis in India and was established with residents from around 6th century BC, providing the area with many historical attractions from ancient monuments to medieval structures. When you visit Delhi, you must visit a few of the monument that call Delhi home such as the India Gate, Red Fort, Humayun's Tomb, Qutub Minar, Jama Masjid, and the Lotus Temple.

India Gate

India Gate was built in 1931 as a reminder and to honor those that died during the First World War, Afghan campaign, as well as the North West Frontier operations. There are over 90,000 names inscribed along the India Gate. Today, the area is often seen crowded with families enjoying the sunshine or others watching the activities in the water drifting alongside the gate. Visitors will also enjoy the vendors selling traditional food, ice cream, and of course toys and balloons for the little ones.

Red Fort

Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan built the Red Fort began the construction of the Red Fort. The entire construction took nine years. The fort can be visited any day of the week excluding Monday.

Jama Masjid

Not far from the Red Fort is the Jama Masjid. Constructed was started in 1650 and was finished in 1656 by Shah Jahan. The mosque is also known as Friday Mosque as the word Jama translates to Friday, the holy day of the Muslims. The only time that you can visit the mosque is during prayer times.

Humayun’s Tomb

Humayun’s Tomb was built in 1565 by Haji Begum who was the widow of Humayun. The architectural design is magnificent with its high arches and full double dome. A must see for anyone visiting Delhi. Humayun’s Tomb is home on Mathura Road and is open every day.

Qutub Minar

Qutub Minar also known as the tower of victory was built in the 13th century. Today it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is visited by many tourists every year. Muhammad Ghori’s chief general, Qutab-ud-Din Aibak created the foundation. The tower stand at an impressive 72.5 meters high. You can visit this historical monument every day from sunrise to sunset.

Bahai House

The Bahai House also known as Lotus Temple, due to its shape and design, may be one of the most popular sightseeing locations in all of Delhi. The temple is open every day excluding Mondays.
